DENTAL PROSTHETICS

What is a dental prosthesis or restoration?

Dental prosthetics or restoration is the process of restoring a damaged tooth or "creating" a new tooth in place of a missing tooth. This procedure can be performed when the patient is missing one, several or all teeth. Also in cases where the tooth is damaged after trauma, worn down or severely damaged by caries. If the patient has a part of the tooth and its original root, the prosthesis is made on them. If the tooth was removed with the entire root, in this case, the implantation of an artificial root is required first, and then suitable dental prostheses are selected.

Why is it important to restore teeth after losing them?

After missing one or more teeth, especially in the front of the mouth, patients usually want to restore their teeth for aesthetic reasons. Having all your teeth makes for a much nicer smile and makes it easier to speak. Missing some teeth is often slurred, making it harder to pronounce some sounds. The shape of the face may also change. However, in addition to aesthetic reasons, it is important to restore lost teeth for medical reasons as well.

Teeth are an important part of our food chain. Digestion begins in the mouth, and good chewing of food is necessary to absorb the necessary nutrients. Therefore, the absence of several or all molars can lead to poorer digestion of food. As a result, we get less nutrients from food, and health problems can occur. In the long run, an improper bite can lead to pain, cracking of the jaw joint, and other problems. A dentist who has assessed the condition of your teeth can offer various solutions to these problems, but it is important to restore the lost teeth first.

What are the types of dentures?

If necessary, tooth implantation is first performed in our clinic, and then after 3-6 months. for the healing period, you can choose the necessary prostheses. Dentures can be divided into two main types: fixed and removable.

The main differences between the two types are cost and durability. Fixed dentures are attached to other existing teeth or screwed to implants. This determines their durability and comfort - you don't have to worry about teeth falling out while talking or eating. However, this type of prosthesis is more expensive. Removable prostheses are usually much cheaper, they can also help maintain the shape of the jaw, but they are not as durable and comfortable as non-removable ones. However, there are many more specific types of prostheses that fall into both categories.

Only a specialist who has examined and assessed the condition of your mouth and teeth can offer you the most suitable solution. Depending on whether you are dealing with one tooth or several, whether you are missing just part of a tooth or the entire tooth including the root, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, veneers, or partial dentures may be best for you. Therefore, the price of a prosthesis and dental implant in Vilnius, in our clinic, depends on many factors and is calculated individually for each patient.
